Dog Collar

MUST HAVES FOR YOUR FURBALL

DOES MY DOG NEED A COLLAR?

YES, AND FOR TWO EXCELLENT REASONS:

1.  Maintaining control of your pet.

2.  A convenient place for your dog's identification tags.

Leather and nylon make durable dog collars.  Leather outlasts nylon.  Nylon is lightweight, and less likely to break than leather.  When properly fitted, both nylon and leather dog collars are comfortable for most dogs.  Leather and nylon are safe for your dog.  Each material will stretch over time.

A Properly Fitted Collar is snug, but not tight; you should be able to get two fingers under it comfortably.

MONITOR THE FIT OF YOUR DOG IF YOU HAVE:

1.  A Growing Puppy

2.  A Dog Whose Hair is Regularly Groomed

3.  A Dog Experiencing Weight Loss or Gain

Dog Tags

DOG TAGS ARE IMPORTANT - Even if your dog’s collar is personalized, dog tags are still a must. With multiple tags, you’ll have plenty of room for all the critical contact and health information needed if your dog gets lost. Here’s what to include:

1.  Cell phone number

2.  Rabies tag, updated with each vaccination

3.  Any health issues – one requiring regular medication or management

Dog Leash

MUST HAVES FOR YOUR FURBALL

WHY DO DOGS NEED A LEASH?

It is required by law that a dog be on a leash always when on public property.  The intention is to protect your dog and the public.

DOG LEASHES ARE A MUST

The best leash for you is ultimately the one that feels most comfortable in your hands.

DON'T RISK YOUR DOGS LIFE -

The main thing is that you choose a collar and leash combo! In public places the law requires your dog to be on a leash.  It protects your dog and the public.

RETRACTABLE LEASHES -  Cause more problems than traditional leads. Common sense and vigilance is what is needed to walk a dog on a retractable leash properly.

PROS - The pros are clearly that dogs can have more interesting walks.  A retractable leash allows you to keep a steady pace while the the dog can sniff freely at a greater distance.

CONS - Not all pets, or pet owners, are good candidates for retractable leashes. Veterinarians say they see a lot of injuries related to retractable leashes.

DOG POOP BAGS - Simply put - You gotta have um.  (Seriously, I've used leaves... at times)
